ABOUT OUT SERVICES

MISSION

The UAA College of Education Student Services Center provides accurate, dependable and friendly service to students from the first inquiry through application for professional licensure.  The Center’s professional staff are an integral part of a community of educators dedicated to improving the quality of education and preparing educators to transform lives.  The Center works in collaboration with the faculty and staff of all COE departments to ensure quality services including:
  • Advising for student success
  • Program information for graduate students
  • Practicum and internship placements
  • Recommendations for teacher certification (teacher, administrators, and special services)
GOALS
  • To provide students with a sense of community in a warm, friendly environment
  • To uphold the ethical standards of the education profession
  • To provide accurate information and literature to prospective and current undergraduate and graduate students and the public
  • To provide quality academic advising for undergraduates
  • To engage in recruitment and retention efforts to achieve a diverse student population
  • To provide appropriate field placements in schools and agencies
  • To recommend qualified graduates for professional licensure
LOCATION AND HOURS
The Student Services Center is located in the Professional Studies Building (formerly the K Building) in Room 209 at the top of the central staircase.  Our office is open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Wednesdays).  You may call 907-786-4401 or fax 907-786-4444 if you have questions related to advising, academic issues, field experiences, or teacher certification.  Inquiries can be sent via email to coe@uaa.alaska.edu.
