The Department of Teaching and Learning offers a variety of programs for individuals interested in working as early childhood, elementary and secondary educators. Graduates of these programs provide leadership in classrooms, childcare settings, districts, community agencies, and the state; recognize the importance of inclusiveness and equity and follow best practices as they relate to working with diverse peoples; understand that collaboration with families, community agencies and other educators is essential to the success of the children with whom they interact; and serve as models of intellectual vibrancy in their work settings.
Programs range from the associate level to the master's level and from initial preparation to advanced preparation. For individuals new to the profession, the department offers certificate, associate, baccalaureate and post-baccalaureate programs in early childhood education; baccalaureate and post-baccalaureate programs in elementary education; and a master's degree in secondary education and some K–12 areas. For practicing teachers who seek advanced preparation or additional endorsements, the department offers a master's degree with emphasis areas in early childhood, curriculum and instruction, and reading.
