Special Education Graduate Certificate
(GRE is not required for admission.)

 
This 24 credit graduate program is designed for

certificated teachers who want to become special educators.

 

The graduate certificate leads to an

institutional recommendation for endorsement

and is noted on the student’s transcript.

 

All courses are offered on-line.

There is a required 6 credit internship.

The required courses are:

EDSE A610 Clinical Assessment: Eligibility and Program Planning
EDSE A623 Language & Literacy: Best Practices in Assessment and Intervention
EDSE A624 social Emotional Development, Assessment, Intervention
EDSE A625 Teaching Mathematics to Special Learners
EDSE A632 Special Education Law: Principles and Practices
EDSE A634 Support and Supervision of Paraeducators
and 6 credits of advanced internship, either
EDSE A695E Advanced Internship: elementary
EDSE A695S Advanced Internship: secondary


We have worked with Enrollment Services to waive the application fee for students who have completed a Graduate Certificate at UAA and wish to continue on with us for a master's degree.  To take advantage of the application fee waiver, please let students know they should select UAA Grad Cert to Master Degree on the drop down menu when they view the Select a Waiver screen during the application process.

Seven of the eight courses applied to this certificate may also be applied to a Master’s of Education in Special Education.  Students interested in the master’s degree must meet the admission requirements, including the GRE.
