Gives a general overview for teachers, parents, mental health, medical and other professionals of the disorder Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Part of a three-course series, the present course addresses the history of the disorder, identification, diagnosis, rating scales, symptoms, interventions, co-morbidity and parenting.

Examines factors for children with special needs who are at risk for reading problems. Examines family and environmental factors that support literacy. Provides opportunity for teacher self-reflection on their own beliefs about emergent literacy practices. Students develop a comprehensive action plan for an emergent literacy program for children with special needs
EDSE A670 High Functioning Adolescents and Young Adults with Autism
with Dr. Teresa Bunsen
This course discusses insights and strategies for teaching and supporting higher functioning students with autism in school. The class focuses on research based techniques designed to be practical for paraprofessionals, educators and related service providers.
EDSE A670 Assistive Technology and Universal Design
with Dr. Kaela Parks
This course examines assistive technology with a focus on options that are low-cost, including features that are available within mainstream products such as Adobe Reader and Microsoft Office. Presents universal design principles as a framework for supporting appropriate assistive technology use. Provides opportunity for teachers to reflect on their own beliefs and practices. Students develop a comprehensive assistive technology action plan for students with disabilities.
